Gardening club
It may not have been the nicest of summers but we have discovered scores of green fingered local who have braved the weather conditions to create some stunning gardens, both in their own homes and in the community.
It all started in May when we ran our Garden Roadshow event where staff, local people and children all pitched to create four new flower beds across the estate.
Some residents told us at these events that they would love to have a nice garden but just didn’t know how. So we recruited the help of our head gardeners to run a six week gardening course attended by 12 people to teach resident how to create beautiful gardens at a minimum of cost.
Six of the residents enjoyed the course, held at Ridgway Street Community Garden, so much that they have decided to set up their own gardening club and continue to work on the community garden. Adactus staff have continued to support them each and week are hoping that the group will begin to grow. Adactus Housing also supported the group to submit a successful grant application and the work will now begin on further improving the paths, new shrubs and plants and a vegetable area.
