Adactus launch Neighbourhood Links Scheme

So…

What is a Neighbourhood Link?

A Key contact in the community…

It is someone who is keen to see improvements in their area, a better deal for local people and hopes to raise community pride.

There are three main roles for the neighbourhood link. You may wish to undertake one, all or a selection of them. They are:

Environmental reporting

This aspect of the links scheme will give you a direct contact for reporting environmental problems. We will be transparent in our targets and will produce information each month for links to show whether we have met those targets.

Every quarter we will meet with residents to gather feedback on our successes and failures and will be able to discuss potential improvements to our service.

Our Housing Officers currently undertake regular estate inspections, as a neighbourhood link you will be able to take part in these walkabouts and flag up any additional environmental or Anti-social behaviour hotspots from a residents point of view.

Environmental Improvements

We hope that Neighbourhood links will want to take a pro-active approach to improving their local environment. We will give links the support and training they require to be able to help us establish regular environmental events such as clear up days.

At the quarterly meetings you will have the opportunity to tell us about areas where you think there is a need for environmental improvements and as a group we can decide what needs to be done to improve them.

We are currently investigating funding to allow us to respond to the improvements identified by the neighbourhood links but in the long term being part of a scheme like this may allow us to attract more money to maker the improvement you want to see.

Community Pride

We think the links scheme should be about both improving the local environment but alongside this it should be about people being proud of where they live.

As such we will offer training and support to residents who wish to organise local events to raise community spirit. We will also ask for resident’s opinions, contributions, and assistance in organising large events for the whole of Miles Platting, Ancoats and Collyhurst.

In addition, we and other organisations working in the area already organise events and projects that are for the benefit of the area and we hope that, as a link, will be able to help us publicise this work more widely.

If you would like to find out more about the scheme call Iain Illstone on 0800 2346826 to find out more.
